Week of November 25

     We have a short week this week, but it will be a busy two days.  Tuesday is our Thanksgiving Luncheon at 12:00.  I hope you can all join us for the luncheon.  Students will be dismissed following the luncheon.

     In religion we are talking about ordinary time and how we can be good followers of Jesus.  We will talking about Advent next.

     For Superkids this week students will read their next Super-Duper magazine called "Lost!"  It is all about different ways that we find items.  We will also begin our next unit which will be introducing the students to long vowels.

     In math we will be working on drawing lines of symmetry and addition and subtraction facts. 

     In science we have started talking about properties of matter and identifying solids.  This week we will also look at liquids.  Students are also starting to write their final copies for our dinosaur books.

     Students finished making their Mayflower fact books last week and this week we will finish up our Thanksgiving books about the first Thanksgiving.

Week of November 18

This week we will be talking about the Church year and ordinary time.  We will also continue to discuss ways that we can be followers of Jesus.

In Superkids this week we will be reading another story called "Yuck!  Yuck!"  We will also do more activities to help us with learning the rule for adding -ing or -ed to a word.  We will also talk about opinions.

In math this week students will learn about even and odd numbers, locating missing numbers on a hundred chart, counting dimes and pennies, and identifying lines of symmetry.  We will also continue to work on addition and subtraction facts.

In science, students will begin editing there dinosaur information for our books.  We are also beginning to talk about the properties of matter and solids, liquids, and gases.

We will also be talking about Thanksgiving, the Pilgrims, Indians, and the Mayflower.  Students will be working on various projects.

Week of November 11

     This week we will continue to talk about the Great Commandment.  We will also read the story the Good Samaritan and students will do activities to retell the story.  We will also be talking about things that we are thankful for and will put up our thankful turkey with the feathers listing all the things that we are thankful for.

     In Superkids we will be starting unit 5 this week.  Unit 5 students will learn the rules for adding -ing and -ed to words.  We will also talk about antonyms and read the story "Monster Under the Bus" in our readers. 

     For math this week we will be working on counting by 2's, telling time to the hour, subtracting 0 from a number, problem solving strategies, and capacity.  We will be able to do a lot this week with various manipulatives and hands on activities.  Students will also be able to use an interactive hundred board and clock with our SMARTboard.

     We are working on writing the first draft for our dinosaur books, making sure we are using complete sentences, capital letters, correct punctuation, and our best handwriting.  This week we will also begin looking at matter.  In our innovation lab this week we will begin constructing our Native American drums.

     We will also begin talking about the First Thanksgiving, the Mayflower, and pilgrims and Indians this week.

Week of Nov. 4

This week we will be continuing to talk about how Jesus wants us to love God, ourselves, and others. 

In Superkids we are working with words that end in er and ed.  Students are continuing to work on identifying problem and solution, as well as this week we will be comparing and contrasting stories.  We are also learning about nouns and verbs and writing a story.

In math this week we will be starting subtraction with subtracting 1 from a number.  We will also work on counting by 10's from any number and counting dimes.

For science this week, students will continue to work on writing about their dinosaurs for our book, as well as write a dinosaur story applying everything that we have learned about dinosaurs.  For our Innovation Lab this week we will begin exploring sound and the materials we will use to make our own drums.

This week we will also talk about veterans in honor of Veteran's Day on November 11.  As well as this month we will be learning about pilgrims, Indians, the Mayflower, and the first Thanksgiving.  November should be another fun month with all of our holiday projects and activities.
